Epidermophyton spp .

Five Main Advantages:

  •  Duo test - No more false positives.
  •  Results in 3-6 days.
  •  Cost-effective in-house testing.
  •  Allows identification of dermatophyte species.
  •  5 Individually wrapped tests with one-year shelf life.

How to Use:

The test is performed by veterinary staff by taking a pluck of fur or skin scrape from the lesion and inoculating both sides of the plate.

After 3-6 days, if dermatophytes are present:

  • DTM will turn red.
  • ESA will turn blue-green.

Once a colour change is observed, a sample of the culture can be taken from the ESA, a media prolific in growing dermatophytes.

Veterinary staff are then able to examine the fungus microscopically and identify the dermatophyte species before advising on appropriate treatment.

A Free Fungal Identification Chart is provided to assist practices with the identification of cultures however, if you need further assistance with identification drop us an email.

To date the chart allows ID of: Microsporum canis, Microsporum gallinae, Microsporum gypseum, Microsporum nanum, Microsporum perisolour, Epidermophyton floccosum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton verrucosum and Trichophyton equinum
